Building Homes, Changing Lives: Canbury Homes Celebrates Habitat for Humanity's 100th Home

At Canbury Homes, we believe building a home is about more than construction - it's about creating a place where families can grow, build memories, and enjoy the comfort and stability of having a place to call their own. That's why our partnership with Habitat for Humanity continues to be such a meaningful part of what we do.
This October, we had the privilege of celebrating an exciting milestone as Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland dedicated its 100th home in Standish, Maine - marking another important step in its mission to make affordable homeownership a reality for local families.
A New Beginning for a Standish Family
The October 15th dedication welcomed Michelle Demers and her family as they prepared to begin an exciting new chapter in their lives.
For Michelle, a single mother, the journey to homeownership began when her oldest daughter spotted an opportunity through Habitat for Humanity and encouraged her to apply. Six months later, that opportunity became a reality.
Their new home is the tenth Habitat home built in the Standish neighborhood, where a growing community of families is putting down roots and building brighter futures.
For Michelle and her daughter Jurnee, the excitement is about more than simply moving into a new house. It's about the everyday moments that make a house feel like home - welcoming friends, decorating for the holidays, and creating lasting family memories.
Building Together to Make Homeownership More Accessible
With housing affordability continuing to challenge families across Maine, organizations like Habitat for Humanity play an essential role in helping bridge the gap between the dream of homeownership and the reality of achieving it.
Canbury Homes is proud to be among the local building partners supporting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland's Standish neighborhood initiative.
By incorporating modular construction into these projects, Habitat can take advantage of an efficient building process while maintaining the quality, comfort, and durability families deserve. Once the modular homes are set, Habitat's dedicated volunteers and trade partners help complete the finishing work, bringing each home one step closer to welcoming its new family.
It's a collaborative approach that demonstrates what can be accomplished when local businesses, skilled tradespeople, volunteers, and community organizations work together toward a shared goal.
Celebrating 100 Homes — and the Families Behind Them
Reaching 100 homes is an incredible achievement for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland. Even more meaningful are the families behind that number — each with their own story, challenges, and dreams for the future.
This milestone is especially significant as Habitat for Humanity International celebrates its 50th anniversary, recognizing five decades of bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
For everyone at Canbury Homes, being involved in initiatives like this reinforces why we do what we do. We believe every family deserves the opportunity to have a safe, comfortable, and affordable home, and we're grateful for the opportunity to support organizations that share that commitment.
Congratulations to Michelle and her family on their new home, and to the entire Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland team on this remarkable milestone! We look forward to seeing the positive impact of your work continue throughout Southern Maine.
